The inspiration behind RavenTrickster

Our values

The Raven Trickster workshop is located in southwest France. Founded with ecological values rooted in its DNA, this workshop is committed to respecting the ocean, an essential element of the region, both for tourism and local identity. The ecological approach is reflected in every aspect of manufacturing, from the selection of sustainable materials to the creation of high-quality handcrafted products.

Our aim is to get involved in the local life of the Aquitaine coastline, by offering recycling solutions for little-used waste, such as construction wood offcuts, or broken or end-of-life surfboards and bodyboards.

Bodysurfing is a minimalist approach to the marine water sports we love so much, but many of which use materials that are not very environmentally friendly, and whose lifespans are short compared to what they cost the planet.

The name Raven Trickster

In Native American mythology, especially that of the Haida nation in northwestern USA and Canada, animal spirits bring wisdom to humans in their own unique way. Among these spirits, the raven is one of the most important and powerful. Indeed, it was raven who is said to have brought humans to the island of Haida Gwaii, and to have created the sun, the moon and all the stars. However, he did this through tricks played on humans and other spirits. He's a prankster spirit, bringing wisdom through mockery and mischief. Every culture has its trickster. The Native Americans of the Great Plains and Eastern America have the coyote, while in Europe we have the fox... All of them bring their own wisdom to their stories of mischief!

I was struck by these majestic ravens on my trip to Haida Gwaii, by their size, their presence and their intelligence... and also by their wicked tricks! As we sat at a picnic table, a raven waited until our backs were turned before stealing our almost-new butter plate, all the while squawking mockingly after we caught it on the table!

The track on the brand logo is a raven's footprint.
